The internationally recognized holiday, which began in 1982, is currently promoted by the International Dance Council (CID), a division of UNESCO. It takes place every year on April 29 to commemorate the birthday of Jean-Georges Noverre.
CID President Alkis Raftis has issued the following statement regarding International Dance Day 2009:
